Apple Leans on Google AI as Siri Redesign Slips to 2026

Apple is exploring Google’s Gemini to power its long-delayed Siri upgrade, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The new Siri will feature AI-driven search but won’t launch until 2026, as Apple tests whether its proprietary AI can meet performance expectations.

According to Bloomberg, Apple and Google agreed this week to trial Gemini within Siri. If trials succeed, the integration could expand to Safari and Spotlight.

Spotlight previously allowed iPhone users to skip Google searches for quick answers on entertainment and other topics. But with chatbots like OpenAI and Perplexity raising the bar, Apple is under pressure to deliver.

The upgraded Siri will reportedly blend text, images, video, and points of interest with AI-powered summaries. It is also expected to tap into personal user data and enable device-wide voice navigation.
