Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews
Meta is testing a revamped coding interview process that allows candidates to use AI tools during the evaluation. According to internal communications verified by 404 Media, the company is recruiting internal employees to take part in mock interviews as it refines the structure and format.
The approach reflects the increasing prevalence of AI assistants and agents in everyday work, particularly in software development. By incorporating these tools into interviews, Meta aims to better mirror the conditions engineers face in their daily roles.
“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” an internal post explained. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”
A spokesperson for Meta confirmed the trials, noting: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
